The infamous witches’ herb Mandragora officinarum or European Mandrake is the star of this blend. Ancient tales of Mandrake appear abundantly in European folklore for its magickal and medicinal properties. It is notably a primary herb found in flying ointment recipes of the Middle Ages through to the Early Modern Period and is often blamed for the intoxicating rapture and debauchery occurring on nights of the witches’ sabbats.

Among its many attributes for the body, magickal mandrake root has been used for hundreds of years as a potent relief to chronic and acute nerve, joint, and muscle pain, as well as tending sleep issues. It is long known for its aphrodisiac properties and is held in high regard for its euphoric, pleasant, and happy effects on ones mind, mood, and energy.

In modern folk magick practices, mandrake can be used for shapeshifting, transformation, ecstatic rituals, visions & divination, sex magick, protection, and purification.

Instructions

Ointments have been used in folk magick and witchcraft for centuries and many ancient cultures believed that using ointments aligned us with divinity. To use for magick and ritual, try applying 1/4 tsp of ointment on your body and allow up to 2 hours for the effects to fully take hold. Please always do a small patch test first to rule out adverse reactions.

Nightshade Ointment: Toxic if ingested. Keep away from children and pets. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use if you have a nightshade allergy. Do not use if you are allergic to plants in the Asteraceae/Compositae family. Do not use if you have heart, liver, or kidney issues. Do not use if you have glaucoma. Safe to use with alcohol, but be aware liquor will increase the nightshades’ effects of drowsiness. Do not use if you are already taking anticholinergic medication (such as atropine).
